Book Presentation and Artist Talk
with Merav Shinn Ben-Alon

Editors Alexandra Klei and Annika Wienert will present the fifth yearbook of werkraum bild und sinn, "Jewish Realities After October 7".

Given the global increase in antisemitism, the project aimed to provide a platform for Jewish voices and give Jewish artists the opportunity to showcase their work. This event is a continuation of that aim.

We are delighted to host Israeli Artist Merav Shinn Ben-Alon. In conversation with the editors, she will talk about her artistic work, the challenges faced by Israeli and Jewish artists since October 7, her experiences of overt and silent boycotts, and how she has responded personally to the current situation.

To See or Not to See | Merav Shinn Ben-Alon

The presentation will unfold as a personal and artistic narrative, weaving together lived experience, political reality, artistic practice and the trajectory of an artist’s career before and after October 7. Moving between image and text, Merav Shinn Ben-Alon will trace the moments in which these different layers meet, collide and sometimes collapse into one another. Through her perspective as an artist and writer, the presentation will move between rupture and continuity, survival and artistic practice, pain and the persistent possibility of hope.

Merav Shinn Ben-Alon is an artist and writer working across painting, drawing, installation, artists’ books, and video. Her dynamic, multidisciplinary practice brings together body, image, archive, and space through processes of fragmentation, reconstruction, and storytelling.

She frequently uses photographic and archival materials to examine how trauma, memory, and historical rupture are embedded in images, bodies, and architectural spaces. Her artistic works and publications have received significant recognition, including prizes and grants, and have been presented internationally through exhibitions and residencies in Germany, France, and the UK.
